Freshman Karlie Campbell Finishes in the Top 25 of her First SEC Championship

TAMPA – Freshman Karlie Campbell finishes inside the top 25, as the University of Kentucky women’s golf team’s time at the 2025 Southeastern Conference Championship comes to a close. The Wildcats turned in their best score of the week in the final round on a 4-over on Wednesday, assembling a 22-over tournament total for 11th place at The Pelican Golf Club (par 70, 6,254 yards) in Tampa, Florida.

Marta López Echevarría shined in the final round, as she did this time last season at the SEC Championship.

Hole-after-hole the senior continued to impress.

It began with a birdie on the par-4 No. 1, which was the start of a front nine that featured three birdies and six pars. Making the turn 3-under, she used the first five holes of the back nine to go par, eagle, birdie, par and birdie to reach 7-under through 14 holes. Unfortunately, her final four holes included a bogey, par, par and triple stretch before she ran out of real estate.

The senior competing in her final SEC Championship turned in a 3-under-par 67 on Wednesday for a 5-over-par 215 tournament total, finding a share of 37th place. She moved up the individual leaderboard more than 20 spots to land in 37th, her second straight appearance in the top half of the individual leaderboard at the SEC Championship.

From graduating senior to ‘just getting started,’ Campbell made a lasting impression on the program in her first SEC Championship. The freshman packed a steady hand to Tampa, putting together rounds of 70, 70 and 72 to lead the lineup with a 212 (+2) for a share of 23rd place. In fact, she had an even-par tournament total through 14 holes today, until she was plagued with three bogeys in her final four holes of the final round.

Cathryn Brown, a sophomore competing in her second SEC Championship at the Pelican, came in at 3-over in the final round. The Western Kentucky native came up with a trio of birdies, including her final hole of the day on the par-4 No. 4. She went 7-over across the three days to finish T48, marking her second straight finish inside the top 50 at the SEC Championship.

Brooke Oberparleiter, also a sophomore but competing in her first conference championship, put together her second straight 72 (+2). The Cat’s back-to-back birdies on hole Nos. 11 and 12 – holes she hadn’t birdied all week – would keep her close to par in the final round. She concluded her time at the SEC Championship 9-over for a share of 53rd place.

Anastasia Hekkonen, another freshman competing in her first SEC Championship, came in at 6-over for the final round, recording a trio of bogeys on the front nine and a trio on the back nine. She wrapped up her time in Tampa 18-over to take 74th place in the stacked field.

South Carolina led the tournament wire-to-wire, taking the stroke-play team championship at 16-under, while the top eight teams got to move on to the match-play quarterfinals, which will commence Thursday morning. Caitlyn Macnab of Ole Miss, who went 5-under in the final round, was crowned the individual champion at 9-under-par 201.
