Men’s Tennis Sweeps Eastern Illinois in Doubleheader

LEXINGTON, Ky.– Kentucky men’s tennis (14-10, 5-7 SEC) breezed past Eastern Illinois (6-22, 0-3 HL) in a Tuesday doubleheader, claiming a pair of 4-0 victories to round out the non-conference portion of the 2025 regular season.

The Cats were dominant in the match, picking up 12 set victories of 6-0 or 6-1. Matt Rankin particularly dominated the day, only dropping two games across three matches.

In the opening match, Kentucky used a pair of 6-1 doubles wins on courts two and three to take an early lead. Rankin and Eli Stephenson added a pair of singles points within seconds of each other, each claiming 6-1, 6-0 wins over their Panther opponents. No. 50 Jack Loutit delivered the clinching victory on the top court, battling through a tough, three-set battle against hometown kid Zach White to take the match, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.

After a short break, the two teams returned for the second match of the day, electing to start with singles action. Rankin was again the first to finish, racing through his second singles match of the day without dropping a game, taking the 6-0, 6-0 win. Moments later, Martin Breysach would wrap up a 6-1, 6-0 win to give the home team a 2-0 lead.

No. 58 Antoine Ghibaudo would take down White on the top court, 6-1, 6-2, to bring the match within one point of its conclusion, allowing No. 93 Jaden Weekes to seal the deal with a 6-2, 6-2 win on court two.

Kentucky will continue its five-match home stretch to close out the regular season on Thursday, hosting No. 22 Oklahoma at 5 p.m. on April 10. The Cats will then host Arkansas at 1 p.m. ET on April 12 to conclude the conference portion of their 2025 schedule. The 2025 SEC Tournament is slated to take place next week, April 16-20, at the Carolina Tennis Center in Columbia, S.C.
