Loutit’s Resilience Pushes Cats Past Rebels, 4-1
LEXINGTON, Ky. –No. 37 Kentucky men’s tennis (12-10, 5-7 SEC) came out victorious over No. 53 Ole Miss (11-11, 2-10 SEC) after a four-match losing streak on the road. The Cats won the doubles point and saw wins from Jaden Weekes, Antoine Ghibaudo, and Jack Loutit to clinch at home.
The Wildcats showed strength in the doubles contest sweeping the Rebels with a win on courts two and three. Kentucky duo Ghibaudo and Weekes defeated Ole Miss pair Noah Schlagenhauf and Loan Lestir, 6-1. Court two found this victorious momentum taking the win with Kentucky’s Martin Breysach and Charlelie Cosnet defeating the Rebel’s Benjamin Martin and Mattheu Chambonniere, 6-3. A duo of aces by Weekes and Cosnet gave Kentucky the doubles point.
With the Cats leading 1-0, they continued to dominate in singles leading in the first set on courts one, two, and three. Weekes took the first win with a straight sets victory over Isac Stromberg, 6-4, 6-2. Next, Ghibaudo rallied on court one coming out with a win over Schlagenhauf, 7-5, 6-2. With all of the pressure on the Rebels, they found a way on court four with Lestir defeating Cosnet in two tiebreakers, 7-6(4), 7-6(2).
Loutit battled it out with Marcel Kamrowski on court two. Loutit was able to rally to win the opening frame, 6-4, before dropping set two, 1-6, and ultimately clinching the match for the Cats with a comeback victory, 6-4.
Kentucky will return to the Boone to host Eastern Illinois for a doubleheader next Tuesday, Apr. 8 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. ET.
