Men’s Tennis Drops 4-1 Decision at No. 12 Texas A&M
BRYAN-College Station, Texas– No. 49 Jack Loutit earned his team-leading 17th singles win of the season as Kentucky (11-10, 4-7 SEC) dropped a 4-1 contest at No. 12 Texas A&M (15-6, 8-2 SEC).
In doubles, the Aggies got out to an early lead thanks to wins on courts one and two. Tiago Pires and Alan Magadan handled Charlelie Cosnet and Martin Breysach, winning 6-2 on court No. 2. The Aggies secured the advantage in the match with a 6-3 win at the top court from No. 30 Togan Tokic and Theo Papamalamis, as they rallied from a break deficit to take down No. 21 Loutit and Eli Stephenson.
The Aggies continued their momentum into singles, taking first sets on four of six courts. Luke Casper took down No. 121 Cosnet 6-3, 6-1 on court No. 4 to give the home team a 2-0. Minutes later, Pires would defeat No. 74 Weekes, 6-4, 6-2, to bring the Aggies within one point of the win. Loutit was able to prevent the shutout with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Magadan at No. 2, but a straight sets loss from No. 63 Antoine Ghibaudo to No. 32 Papamalamis in the match’s sole ranked-vs-ranked contest secured the win for Texas A&M.
The Cats will return home for their first home match in nearly three weeks with its non-conference finale against Dayton on Wednesday, April 2 at 11 a.m. Admission is free to the public.
