Makarawu Named to Final 10 of The Bowerman Watchlist
NEW ORLEANS, La. – UK track and field superstar Carlie Makarawu has been named to the third update of The Bowerman Award Watchlist for the 2024-25 collective season, per the release from the USTFCCCA office Thursday afternoon.
The Bowerman is bestowed to collegiate track & field’s top male and female athlete for the year. The Bowerman Advisory Board, and ultimately, The Bowerman Voters, are instructed to consider performances inclusively from the collegiate indoor track & field and outdoor track & field seasons only. Cross country results are not within this consideration. The current collective track & field season began on November 29, 2024, and will end on June 14, 2025.
Makarawu capped off the best indoor season in Kentucky track history with a National Championship performance in Virginia Beach at the 2025 NCAA Indoor Championships. The Zimbabwe-native beat our co-NCAA leader Makanakaishe Charamba of Auburn in the men’s 200m final.
Prior to Virginia Beach, Makarawu won a silver medal at the SEC Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas by placing second in the men’s 200m final. On three separate occasions this season, Makarawu has broken the UK 200m record in just his first season with the Wildcats.
Makarawu is one three male athletes in program history to be named to The Bowerman Watchlist, along with Andrew Evans and 2019 semifinalist Daniel Roberts.
The next update for The Bowerman Watchlist will occur on Wednesday, April 16th (Women) and 17th (Men).
