Kentucky Takes Down LSU, 5-2, at the Boone
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky men’s tennis (10-6, 3-3 SEC) defeats LSU (9-9, 0-6 SEC) to continue their undefeated record at home this season, 8-0. Additionally, the Cats competed in the first outdoor match of the season at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex.
In the double’s session, Kentucky’s new pairing of junior Jaden Weeks and Martin Breysach dominated LSU’s pair Alessio Vasquez and Brock Anderson with a 6-1 victory. Off to a great start, the Cats pair Matt Rankin and Charlelie Cosnet fell short on court two to the Tiger’s pair of Sasa Markovic and Andrej Loncarevic, 6-2. At the No. 1 position, Kentucky’s Eli Stephenson and Jack Loutit sealed the doubles point along with their second straight win over a ranked pair. The duo defeated LSU’s No. 45 pair Julien Penzlin and Aleksi Lofman, 6-3.
In his first season as a Wildcat, Breysach secured the first singles win for the Cats over the Tigers Ishaan Ravichander, 6-2, 6-1. On court one, No. 81 Loutit joined the win column putting the Cats ahead of the Tigers 3-0. Loutit defeated Penzlin in two hard fought sets, 6-4, 6-4. The remainder of the courts battled it out, some pushing it to a third set. No. 66 Weekes was able to pull through defeating Markovic, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
The Cats in a perfect position to sweep the Tigers, came up short on court three. Vasquez defeated No. 121 Cosnet in a 10-point tiebreak, 5-7, 6-3, 10-1 to put LSU on the board, 4-1. Stephenson shifted the momentum back in the Cats favor coming out on top over Enzo Kohlmann, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4. Officially 5-1, LSU clocked another point on the board with a win from Loncarevic on the final court over Kentucky’s Rankin, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
Kentucky will return to the Boone to host the Vanderbilt Commodores Saturday, Mar. 15 at 1 p.m. ET.
