Georgia Amoore Improves as a Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Player of the Year Semifinalist
ATLANTA – Wildcat point guard Georgia Amoore keeps improving her position on national lists, now being named a Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Player of the Year Semifinalist, it was announced by The Atlanta Tipoff Club on Thursday.
She is one of 10 players named a semifinalist for the Naismith Trophy, which symbolizes excellence, tradition and prestige. The annual award will be presented to the most outstanding women’s basketball player who achieves tremendous on-court success in 2024-25.
With just two familiar teammates and three familiar coaches, she has led a brand-new team in a brand-new league to a 22-7 overall record, including a 11-5 mark in the Southeastern Conference and a four seed at the SEC Tournament.
Through 29 games in 2024-25, she is averaging the best stats of her college career in five categories, including 19.1 points per game, 42.5 field-goal percentage, 6.9 assists per game, 2.2 assist-turnover ratio and 1.0 steals per game. She also is averaging 2.4 three-point field goals per game.
If the season ended today, Amoore’s 6.9 assists per game would rank second in program history and close to breaking the more-than-four-decade-old school record (7.1). Amoore, who has 199 assists total this season, also needs just 11 more assists to break the single-season school record. No Cat has even cracked into the top 10 since Amber Smith in 2009-10, while Amoore is currently third.
The Wildcat has scored in double digits in all but one game this season (28 games), while she has scored at least 20 points in 13 games this season. Moreover, she has knocked down at least three 3-pointers in 13 games, and she has dished out at least seven assists in 19 games.
In fact, Amoore needs just one more 3-pointer to eclipse 400 for her career and she needs just 16 more 3-pointers to break the single-season school record (84).
She has produced 19 games this season – and 14 games against league opponents – with at least 15 points and five assists, which is more than any player in the SEC since at least 2002-03.
Earlier this season, Amoore set the school record for most games with at least seven 3-pointers in a single season with three (Belmont, Mississippi State, at Oklahoma).
Her stats this season are even better in league action.
Through 16 SEC games, she put up 20.4 points per game, 2.4 3-pointers per game and 6.6 assists per game. She became the lone SEC player to have at least 326 points and 106 assists in SEC regular-season action since at least 2002-03. With her 326 points and 106 assists in the SEC, she contributed – either by scoring or by assists – to nearly 50.0 percent of points in league action.
For her career, she is the only current DI player – men or women – to have at least 2,000 career points (2,4-8) and 800 assists (855). The Wildcat also is the third player in DI women’s basketball history to have at least 2,300 career points and 800 career assists, joining Caitlin Clark (Iowa, 2020-24) and Sabrina Ionescu (Oregon, 2016-20).
