BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Kentucky men’s basketball’s junior guard Otega Oweh was named to the All-Southeastern Conference Second Team by the league’s coaches on Monday. It marks the first all-conference honors of his career.

Oweh led the Wildcats in scoring at 16.2 points per game during the regular season. He’s topped double-digit tallies in 29 games overall and eclipsed the 20-point plateau on 11 occasions, including eight times during league play. Prior to this season, Oweh had reached double-figure scoring in 22 games in two seasons at Oklahoma.

The Newark, New Jersey, native also led the Cats in steals with 48 on the season for an average of 1.5 swipes per game. He registered 16 games with multiple steals.

Oweh is having a career season for the Wildcats, enjoying career bests in scoring average (16.2), rebounds per game (4.8), assists per game (1.6), steals per game (1.5) and blocks per game (0.5).

His 28-point outing at Oklahoma was his most prolific performance of the season. He scored each of UK’s final 18 points, including the game-winner with six seconds to play. Oweh then also came up with the defensive play of the game, registering a blocked shot on OU’s final attempt.

Other notable performances include in UK’s season finale at Missouri, Oweh tallied a game-high 22 points, 20 of which game after halftime. At Vanderbilt, Oweh picked up his second career double-double with 21 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.

Oweh is joined on the second team by Mississippi State’s Josh Hubbard, South Carolina’s Collin Murray-Boyles, Tennessee’s Chaz Lanier and Texas’ Tre Johnson.
