Jacob Lang Wins SEC Freshman of the Week
LEXINGTON, Ky. – In recognition of his performance at the Watersound Invitational, Kentucky men’s golf’s Jacob Lang was selected as the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
Lang was Kentucky’s top finisher at the team’s first tournament of the spring, tying for 12th in the 77-player field. The native of Alvaton, Kentucky carded rounds of 70-73-69 for a 4-under score that marked the best 54-hole total of his young college career. The event was held Feb. 17-18 at Shark’s Tooth Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Florida, and featured six teams ranked inside the top 25 by Scoreboard Powered by Clippd. Lang’s efforts helped power the Wildcats to an eighth-place finish as a team and the squad’s lowest stroke total on the 2024-25 campaign.
Lang totaled 10 birdies in the tournament and was among the field’s best in scoring average on both par 3s (2.92) and par 4s (3.90), ranking third in both categories.
The top 20 finish at the Watersound was the second of Lang’s college career through just four total starts. He tied for 20th at the inaugural Cullan Brown Collegiate in the fall. For his freshman season, Lang owns a 73.41 scoring average and has posted four rounds under-par.
