ATHENS, Ga. – The Kentucky women’s diving team competed to open the SEC Swimming & Diving Championship in the 1-meter dive in Athens, Ga. The Wildcats helped notch the women’s team to end the day at a 2nd place finish, with 43 total points in the competition so far.

The Wildcats competed in the women’s 1-meter diving, the only scoring event of the day. In her first SEC Championship, freshman Avery Giese led the way for the Wildcats. In prelims she qualified for the B Finals at 14th place alongside senior Abby Devereaux at 15th. Falling just one place outside the B Final qualification in prelims was sophomore Kristy Pfaff at 17th. Despite not making the B Final, Pfaff earned the Wildcats nine points to help the women’s team score.

In the B Finals, Giese ended at the top with a score of 286.75, earning the team 20 points by virtue of her ninth-place finish. Devereaux also added 14 points to the Wildcats’ total score with her top five finish in this round, bringing the Wildcats to a total of 43 points on the day.

Day two of the championship starts with prelims at 12 p.m. ET, followed by men’s 1-meter prelims at noon, with B-Finals directly after. The men’s 1-meter final will start at 5 p.m. ET along with the 200 medley relay and wrapping up with the 800 free relay. All sessions can be live streamed on SECN+, and live stats can be found here.
