No. 8 Kentucky Drops Final Match of ITA Indoors to No. 14 Texas A&M
DALLAS, Texas – Despite singles wins from Jack Loutit and Jaden Weekes, No. 8 Kentucky (7-3, 0-0 SEC) was never able to recover from an early deficit, falling 4-2 to No. 14 Texas A&M (5-3, 0-0 SEC).
The Aggies took the doubles point in a tightly contested session, marking the fourth time Kentucky has dropped the opening point this season. The Cats are 1-3 after falling behind 1-0 in 2025. Both teams earned quick wins before the session was decided by a tiebreak on court No. 2.
Texas A&M’s No. 1 duo of Theo Papamakamis and Togan Tokac claimed a 6-1 victory over Martin Breysach and Weekes, taking the victory with the final four games of the match. The Cats would even things up with a win at court No. 3, as Antoine Ghibaudo and Charlelie Cosnet took down Tiago Pires and Ritesh Patil, 6-2. The French duo are now on a five match winning streak on the third doubles court.
With the opening point down to court No. 2, Loutit and Eli Stephenson were able to come back from multiple deficits to force a tiebreaker, recovering from an early break and a pair of match points before ultimately falling 7-6 (2).
No. 68 Loutit was able to even things up with his seventh straight win to start the spring season, preserving his undefeated record with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Luke Casper.
No. 62 Weekes quickly followed with a win of his own, taking down No. 71 JC Roddick in a pair of tightly contested sets, 6-4, 6-4.
The Aggies were able to take their three singles points in rapid succession. Matt Rankin was the first Wildcat to fall, losing to Tokac 7-6 (1), 6-3 on court No. 5.
Texas A&M would then win a pair of three set matches within seconds of each other to quickly clinch the dual. Breysach was able to recover from a slow start to force a decider on court six, but ultimately fell to Patel, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
Stephenson also dropped a three-setter, unable to sustain an opening frame win and falling 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 to Pires.
Ghibaudo was in the middle of a third set against No. 60 Papamalamis when play ended.
The Wildcats will return home for their SEC opener against No. 13 Mississippi State on Monday, February 24 at the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex. Admission to all home matches is free to the public.
