Wildcats Take On Notable Field at Spartan Sun Coast Invitational
SARASOTA, Fla. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team will play in its second tournament of the spring season, just two weeks after an impressive performance at the Paradise Invitational. The Wildcats will take on the field at the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational on the Palm Aire Champions Course at the Palm Aire Country Club (par 72, 6,191 yards) in Sarasota, Florida, on Sunday and Monday.
Kentucky will play 36 holes Sunday, with an 8:15 a.m. ET shotgun start off hole Nos. 4-6, paired with Ohio State and Georgia Southern. The Wildcats will play their final 18 holes Monday, with an 8:15 a.m. ET shotgun start, too.
The field will play a stroke-play standard format.
Fifteen teams make up the Spartan Sun Coast Invitational, including host Michigan State, Charleston, Florida International, Georgia Southern, Grand Valley State, Illinois, Kent State, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Purdue.
Kentucky’s lineup includes Cathryn Brown, Karlie Campbell, Brooke Oberparleiter, Marta López Echevarría and Anastasia Hekkonen. That fivesome are the same fivesome that hauled in third place two weeks ago at the Paradise Invitational.
There, the lineup strung together team rounds of -3, -2 and -7 to assemble an 852 (-12) tournament total to climb to third place. The team’s 7-under in the final round was its best 18-hole team output this season and the team’s 12-under was its best 54-hole tournament total in 2024-25.
Brown and Campbell both landed in the top five of the individual leaderboard on scorecards of 5-under-par 211 at the Paradise Invitational. Campbell, a freshman from Ethridge, Tennessee, was crowned the Southeastern Conference Freshman Golfer of the Week thanks to her performance. She collected a team-high 12 birdies on the golf course two weeks ago, which tied for the third-most of any player in the field.
This week’s tournament is the second of four for the team before competing in the SEC Tournament at the Pelican Golf Club in Tampa, Florida, beginning on April 14 and a hopeful NCAA Regional bid.
The field can expect sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-70s in Sarasota.
