Big Blue Preview: No. 12/13 Kentucky Women’s Basketball Plays At No. 13/12 Oklahoma
NORMAN, Okla. – The No. 12/13 University of Kentucky women’s basketball program will play at No. 13/12 Oklahoma on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 4 p.m. ET at Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma.
It will mark the first meeting between the two teams as Southeastern Conference foes.
Darren Headrick will have the radio call for UK Sports Network, his eighth straight season as the voice of the Wildcats. His call will be carried on 630 AM WLAP (Lexington) and 790 AM WKRD (Louisville).
Big Blue Nation also can watch the game on SEC Network, with Courtney Lyle and Carolyn Peck on the call.
The Wildcats enter the game 18-2 overall, which is tied for their best 20-game start to a season in program history. The Cats are 7-1 in Southeastern Conference action.
The contest will mark the team’s second straight ranked game and its fifth overall in 2024-25. Kentucky is 3-1 in those ranked games, with its lone loss coming at No. 16/15 North Carolina, 72-53, on Dec. 5.
Kentucky is coming off a triumph over No. 22/22 Alabama, 65-56, at home on Thursday. Four starters scored in double digits, with Georgia Amoore leading the way on 16 points. Clara Strack added her 10th double-double of the season and her second straight on 14 points and 14 rebounds, also dishing out three assists and a block.
Amoore and Strack are leading the team in scoring through eight conference games, with Amoore putting up 20.5 points per league game and Strack adding 14.3 points per league game. Amoore also is dishing out 7.9 assists per league game, while Strack is grabbing 10.0 rebounds per league game.
Amoore, an All-American point guard, just regained her spot leading the nation with 7.5 assists per game overall this season. In her latest appearance against Alabama, she eclipsed 800 career assists, just the second active player – men or women – in NCAA Division I to have at least 800 career assists.
While the Cats are putting up 78.3 points per game this season, which ranks 28th in the nation, they’re holding opponents to 59.9 points per game and on 35.2 field-goal percentage defense, which ranks second in the league and 13th in the nation.
Kentucky has held 14-of-its-20 opponents under 40.0 percent shooting from the field, including 6-of-its-8 league opponents. The Wildcats have held all but one opponent under 45.0 percent shooting from the field this season, with North Carolina being the lone outlier (47.5 percent on its home court).
This is the fifth all-time meeting between the two teams. Kentucky leads Oklahoma, 3-1, in the series. The Wildcats won the last three straight games in the series.
UK has never played OU in Norman. The first three meetings in the series were on neutral courts, while the most recent meeting was held at Memorial Coliseum in Lexington.
