No. 12 Kentucky Sweeps No. 20 Arizona State
LEXINGTON, Ky. –No. 12 Kentucky men’s tennis (3-1) finished the Lexington Regional of the 2025 ITA Kickoff Weekend with a dominating 4-0 win over No. 20 Arizona State (2-2) in the championship match. The Wildcats started strong picking up the doubles point with wins from courts two and three and singles wins on the top three courts.
At the No. 2 position, sophomore duo Jack Loutit and Eli Stephenson snatched the first win of doubles play over the Sundevils pair Nicola Signa and Constaninos Koshish, 6-2. Shortly after, Charlelie Cosnet and Antoine Ghibaudo sealed the doubles point for the Wildcats with a tiebreak win over Daniel Phillips and Mikey Anderson, 7-6(2).
In the singles session, Kentucky started slow going down in the first set on all four courts, however, they responded with resilience pushing it to a third set on all four courts as well. Ghibaudo put the Wildcats in the lead, 2-0, over the Sundevils with a huge performance in the third set overtaking Artnak, 1-6, 6-4, 6-1. Junior Jaden Weekes posted a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, victory over Arizona State’s Mathis Bondaz giving the Cats a 3-0 advantage. In need of just one more point to secure a victory, Loutit defeated Nicola Cigna, 2-6, 6-2, 6-4.
Tonight’s win will advance the Wildcats to the 2025 ITA Division I Men’s National Team Indoor Championship for the 24th time in program history. The ITA’s premier event will take place from February 14-18 in Dallas and Waco, Texas, on the campuses of SMU and Baylor.
In addition to Kentucky—the first team in the nation to win their Kickoff Weekend Regional—and the two host institutions, 13 more schools will qualify for the tournament at other regionals around the country. Eight schools will start the tournament at each of the host sites, with first round assignments announced on Monday, January 27.
Kentucky will return to the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex to host Memphis on Thursday, Jan. 30 at 5 p.m.
