Stone Saunders Named 2024 MaxPreps Pennsylvania High School Player of the Year
Kentucky signee Stone Saunders, a quarterback from Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, was named the 2024 MaxPreps Pennsylvania High School Football Player of the Year, it was announced last week.
The 6-foot-1, 210-pound signal caller will go down in the history books as one of the most prolific passers in Pennsylvania history. He finished his stellar prep career with a 52-6 record as the starting quarterback, including an 18-2 mark in postseason play. He became the state’s all-time leader in passing yards (13,719), passing touchdowns (204) and completions (781) and ranks third all-time nationally in TD passes. He became the first QB in state history to throw for at least 3,000 yards in all four seasons of high school. Additionally, he threw at least 46 TD passes all four years.
This season, he helped lead Bishop McDevitt to a 14-2 overall record and a Class 5A state championship with 3,577 passing yards, 48 passing touchdowns and a 65.2 completion percentage. He added 129 yards rushing with five rushing scores. He was coached by Jeff Weachter. During his four years as the starting QB, Saunders guided his team to two state championships (senior and sophomore seasons), state runner-up (freshman) and state semifinals (junior).
Saunders is rated a four-star recruit by ESPN and was chosen as the No. 11 player in Pennsylvania and No. 17 quarterback nationally.
He chose Kentucky over offers from Georgia, Louisville, Miami (Fla.), Michigan and Texas A&M among many others.
