Big Blue Preview: No. 16/16 Kentucky Women’s Basketball Plays at Purdue on Saturday

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The No. 16/16 University of Kentucky women’s basketball program will play at Purdue on Saturday, Dec. 14 at 5 p.m. ET in Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana, for the first game in a home-and-home series.

It will be UK’s second true road game in a three-game stretch.

Fans in the area can still purchase tickets to the game here.

Darren Headrick will have the radio call for UK Sports Network, his eighth straight season as the voice of the Wildcats. His call will be carried on 98.5 FM ICONS (Lexington), 1080 AM WKJK (Louisville) and on SiriusXM Channel 162 or 192.

Big Blue Nation also can watch the game on Big10 Network, with Sloane Martin and Christy Winters Scott on the call.

Kentucky is coming off a win against Queens, 87-45, in Historic Memorial Coliseum on Monday, improving to 8-1 on the season. With the triumph, it marked just the second time in program history that UK allowed 45 points or less four times within their first nine games of a season. The lone other instance UK accomplished that feat was in its first season of varsity status in 1974-75.

Four Wildcats scored double-digits in that game for the seventh time this season, including Georgia Amoore’s third 20-point game of the season. With her performance, she is now just 12 points away from eclipsing 2,000 for her career. Currently, she is ranked 14th among active players in all three NCAA Divisions and seventh among DI.

It marked the first game this season where the All-American didn’t dish out at least seven assists, while she remains the nation’s leader in assists per game with 7.8.

Amelia Hassett, a junior forward, reached a milestone of her own against Queens. With her season-high 19 points Monday, she eclipsed 1,000 points for her career, currently sitting with 1,005.

Teonni Key put together her fifth double-double of the season on 12 points and 13 rebounds against the Royals. She is ranked fourth in the Southeastern Conference and 13th in the nation with her five double-doubles in 2024-25.

As a team, UK is in the nation’s top 25 in nine categories, including blocks per game (1st, 9.0), field-goal percent defense (3rd, 31.2), assist / turnover ratio (9th, 1.51), assists per game (12th, 19.4), defensive rebounds per game (12th, 31.0), free-throw percentage (17th, 78.1), three-point field goal percent defense (22nd, 24.2), scoring defense (24th, 53.9) and rebounds per game (25th, 43.7).

Kentucky trails Purdue in the all-time meetings, 0-2, in a series that began in 1999. The Wildcats first dropped to the Boilermakers, 48-40, in the Boilermaker Blockbuster at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Dec. 18, 1999, before losing, 87-67, in Memorial Coliseum on Dec. 1, 2000.

The Wildcats’ associate head coach Lindsey Hicks was a player in Purdue’s No. 1 recruiting class in 2000. There, Hicks helped lead the Boilermakers to four consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, including the national championship game in 2001. While Hicks was a student-athlete, Purdue won three Big Ten Championships and reached the Elite Eight (2003) and Sweet 16 (2004).
