Big Blue Preview: No. 20/19 Kentucky Women’s Basketball Plays Host to No. 18/18 Louisville in Front of Sold Out Crowd
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 20/19 University of Kentucky women’s basketball program will play host to No. 18/18 Louisville on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 6 p.m. ET in Historic Memorial Coliseum. Tickets for the in-state, top-20 matchup are sold out.
A very limited number of student tickets will be available to claim at the UK Ticket Office windows, located at the Lexington Avenue entrance, beginning one hour prior to tipoff. Students can show their UK ID to claim a ticket, while supplies last.
Faculty and staff claims will not be available due to the sellout.Fans who are still interested in attending can purchase a ticket via Ticketmaster Verified Resale. Darren Headrick will have the radio call for UK Sports Network in 2024-25, his eighth straight season as the voice of the Wildcats. His call will be carried on 98.5 FM ICONS (Lexington) and 1080 AM WKJK (Louisville).
Big Blue Nation also can watch the game on SEC Network+, with Noah Frary and alumna and 2012 Southeastern Conference Champion Bria Goss on the broadcast.
The game will mark UK’s first ranked matchup of the season. Kentucky’s most recent ranked win was against then-No. 1 South Carolina, 64-62, on March 6, 2022, to win the 2022 Southeastern Conference Tournament in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Wildcats are 3-0 to begin the season, with wins over USC Upstate (98-43), Northern Kentucky (70-41) and Wofford (76-42). This season marks just the second time in program history that the Cats have allowed 43 points or less in each of their first three games, with the first instance occurring in 1974- 75. It also marks just the third time in program history that the Cats have won each of their first three games by at least 29 points (2011-12, 2017-2018, 2024-25).
UK enters the in-state matchup leading the nation in blocks (12.7) and ranking second in the nation in assist-turnover ratio (2.2). It actually ranks in the top 15 in the nation in nine categories overall, also featuring assists (22.7) and rebounds (49.3).
The Wildcats are coming off a win over the Terriers last Tuesday, in which they made a season-high 10 3-pointers. It marked the first time the Cats have made at least 10 3-pointers in a game since December 2022. The Cats also logged at least 20 assists and at least 10 blocks for the third straight game this season.
Four players are averaging double-digit scoring, including Clara Strack (17.7), Dazia Lawrence (12.7), Clara Silva (12.0) and Georgia Amoore (11.7). Strack and Hassett are leading the team in rebounds, with 11.3 per game and 10.3 per game, respectively.
This is the 60th meeting between UK and UofL. Kentucky leads the all-time meetings with Louisville, 34-25, in a series that dates back to Dec. 15, 1975. UofL has won the last seven straight meetings (2016-23), while the two teams didn’t mean during the Covid-affected season in 2020-21. UK won five straight meetings before that (2011-15).
The Wildcats lead the Cardinals in games played in Lexington, 22-7. The two teams haven’t played in Memorial Coliseum since Dec. 17, 2017, when UofL defeated UK, 87-63. The last two games that UK hosted UofL, they were held at Rupp Arena (2022, 2019).
The last time UK defeated UofL was in December 2015, which also was the last time UK defeated UofL in a home game. The last time UK defeated UofL in Memorial Coliseum was in December 2013.
