Big Blue Preview: No. 20/22 Kentucky Women’s Basketball Plays Host to Wofford
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The No. 20/22 University of Kentucky women’s basketball program will play host to Wofford on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. ET for Heroes Night and Salute to Veterans Night in the newly renovated Historic Memorial Coliseum.
The program plans to recognize and honor active and former members of the armed forces for their sacrifice at the game. Both active and former military personnel can receive discounted tickets for the game by emailing WeAreUK@uky.edu. There also will be a camo hat giveaway for season ticket holders and active and former military personnel in attendance, which can be picked up on the Lexington Avenue side concourse.
Big Blue Nation can still purchase single-game tickets to the game and all 14 of the program’s remaining home games this season. To shop single-game tickets, click here. For a full list of the program’s nonconference promotional lineup, click here.
Darren Headrick will have the radio call for UK Sports Network in 2024-25, his eighth straight season as the voice of the Wildcats. His call will be carried on 98.5 FM ICONS (Lexington), 1080 AM WKJK (Louisville) and on SiriusXM Channel 106 or 190.
Big Blue Nation also can watch the game on SEC Network+, with fan-favorites Jeff Piecoro and Christi Thomas on the broadcast.
Kentucky is 2-0 to begin the season, coming off wins over USC Upstate, 98-43, on Nov. 4 and Northern Kentucky, 70-41, on Nov. 7. It marked the first time UK has won each of its first two games of a season by at least 29 points since 2018-19 and just the third time in program history that UK has allowed 43 points or less in each of its first two games of a season (1974-75, 2018-19, 2024-25).
Going into the Kentucky-Wofford matchup Tuesday, the Wildcats are leading the nation in blocks (28) and blocks per game (14.0).
In their most recent triumph, the Cats swatted 16 blocks, the second most in program history. It is just three blocks from tying the school record (19), which was set in 2006. Clara Silva, a freshman center, also is leading the nation. She is responsible for 11 of those 28 team blocks so far in 2024-25. She needs just 12 more blocks to crack into the program’s all-time, top-10 freshman season list.
Through two games this season, UK is averaging 84.0 points per game, holding its opponents to 42.0 points per game. UK is shooting 47.8 percent from the field and 25.0 percent from the arc.
UK also is recording 48.5 rebounds per game, 24.0 assists per game and 9.0 steals per game, in addition to the 14.0 blocks per game. Three players are averaging double-digit scoring, including Clara Strack (18.5), Clara Silva (16.0) and Georgia Amoore (12.0), while six players have already logged at least one double-digit scoring game in 2024-25.
Hassett, a junior guard, is leading the team on the boards at 12.5 rebounds per game. She is coming off a career-high 16 rebounds against Northern Kentucky last Thursday. Strack grabbed a career-high 13 in that game, while she was just two assists off a triple-double.
Kentucky and Wofford have played just twice in program history, including 2008 and 2020. The Wildcats defeated the Terriers in both meetings, which were both held in Memorial Coliseum. In the first matchup, UK defeated WU, 67-57, on Jan. 7, 2008, then again, 98-37, on Dec. 19, 2020.
