Women’s Soccer Faces Tennessee in Opening Round of SEC Tournament

LEXINGTON, Ky. – No. 8-seed Kentucky women’s soccer (11-3-4, 3-3-4) will face a familiar foe in No. 9-seed Tennessee (8-5-4, 3-4-3) in the opening round of the 2024 Southeastern Conference tournament on Sunday, November 3rd at 5:30 p.m. ET. The match will be televised on SECN, and Mike Watts and Jill Loyden will be on the call. The Wildcats make their second-straight postseason appearance and 24th overall in the tournament.

The Wildcats enter the postseason after defeating the Volunteers 4-0 in the final game of the regular season at the Bell Soccer Complex. A career first hat-trick from Makala Woods that earned her SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors saw Kentucky take down their rivals. The victory also solidified an unbeaten 2024 inside the Bell with an overall 9-0-3 record. It’s only the second time in program history the Wildcats have gone unbeaten at home and the first since 2011.

Tennessee enters the match after securing its spot in the SEC tournament with a 1-0 victory over Florida (4-8-6, 1-7-2) Wednesday night. The match was one of two that were rescheduled from September due to Hurricane Helene. The Vols punched their ticket in the 43rd minute thanks to a goal from Sarah Greiner to set up the rematch with the Wildcats in the Sunshine State.

The Wildcats own a 14-19-3 all-time record at the conference tournament, winning the title in both 1995 and 2006. Tennessee leads the all-time series with a 17-13-4 record while the Wildcats have a 3-3 record against the Volunteers in the tournament. The Wildcats last faced Tennessee in the semifinals in 2014 and earned a 3-2 victory sending the Wildcats to their third appearance in the championship match.

The winner of Sunday’s match will face No. 1-seed Mississippi State in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, November 5 at 5:30 p.m. ET. More information about the SEC tournament can be found here.
