Fall Finale for Men’s Golf to Take Place this Weekend
LOXLEY, Ala. – Kentucky men’s golf plays its fifth and final fall event this Saturday and Sunday when the Cats compete at the 2024 Steelwood Collegiate Invitational hosted by South Alabama at Steelwood Country Club (Par 72, 7,096 yards).
The Wildcats come into the event off a third place showing at their home tournament, the inaugural Cullan Brown Collegiate. The tournament saw five Wildcats place inside the top 20 individually and marked the first top three finish for the team since the Hamptons Intercollegiate in October of 2022.
UK will be participating in the Steelwood for the second year in a row, finishing fourth in 2023 at 8-over par.
This year’s 14-team field is headlined by Illinois, ranked as the No. 12 team in the country in the latest rankings from Scoreboard.
Rounds one and two will take place on Saturday, beginning with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. ET / 8:30 a.m. CT. The final round will be held on Sunday with tee times off holes No. 1 and No. 10 starting at 8:40 a.m. ET / 7:40 a.m. CT.
Kentucky’s lineup is headed by Jansen Preston, a senior from Lexington with a 73.92 scoring average thus far this fall. Preston has posted two top 20 finishes on the season, including a T20 result at the Cullan Brown Collegiate.
Junior Jack Schoenberger will occupy the No. 2 spot in the lineup for what will be the Belmont transfer’s fifth start as a Wildcat. Schoenberger has a team-high three top 20 finishes and owns the team’s low 18-hole round of the season with his 67 in round one of the Bearcat Invitational.
Solomon Petrie, a redshirt sophomore out of Akron, Ohio, is slotted third for the Cats this week fresh off his T20 finish at the Cullan Brown Collegiate, Petrie’s best career result.
A pair of freshmen with matching first names will fill out the fourth and fifth spots in the Kentucky lineup, as Jacob Lang and Jacob Settles look to build off their identical T20 finishes at the Cullan.
The Wildcats’ starting five will tee off on hole Nos. 4-7, playing alongside Clemson and Nebraska.
Sophomore Michael Hake, who enjoyed a career performance at Lexington Country Club by finishing in a tie for third out of 84 players, will compete as an individual in the Steelwood. He will begin his tournament on hole No. 16.
