Logan Dorsey’s Goal Keeps Kentucky Undefeated in League Play
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky (3-3-4, 2-0-2 Sun Belt) stayed undefeated in Sun Belt Conference play with a 1-0 victory over Old Dominion (4-5-2, 0-3-1 Sun Belt) on Friday evening at The Bell Soccer Complex.
In front of 1,197 members of Big Blue Nation, Kentucky men’s soccer celebrated its history welcoming past players home for Alumni Night. Family and friends joined together to honor the lives and legacies of two Wildcat greats who passed away in 2020 – Jason Bell and Jamal Shteiwi.
The Cats have now secured three more points to add to their Sun Belt total. Prior to the match, UK sat in third behind Marshall (T1) and West Virginia (T1) in the most recent conference standings.
Senior Logan Dorsey scored the game-winning goal in the 65’ for his fourth of the season. He was assisted by sophomore Marqes Muir following a corner kick. A chipped in ball to a missed header dropped the ball back to Muir who bounced it to Dorsey for the goal. The shot was a successful left-footed pop which earned Dorsey his second game-winner of his senior season.
Back-to-back Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Ryan Jack, was back in the goal for his fifth consecutive match. He earned his fourth clean sheet to secure the shutout against the Monarchs. His junior record has now improved to 2-1-2.
Kentucky recorded 14 total shots with six on goal while Old Dominion tallied 10 shots with only one on target. The Wildcats held 52% of possession throughout the match forcing the ODU keeper, Michael Statham, to defend the opposition’s goal five times.
Kentucky and Old Dominion now hold an updated all-time series record of 9-2-2 (UK).
The Wildcats will be back at The Bell on Tuesday to host Bradley for a 7 p.m. EST contest to complete non-conference competition before getting back on the road for two matches at James Madison and Central Florida.
