Men’s Golf Wraps Up Cullan Brown Collegiate With Five in Top 20
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The inaugural Cullan Brown Collegiate concluded on Tuesday as Kentucky men’s golf notched a third-place finish from its “A” team, while the “B” group tied for sixth at Lexington Country Club (par 71, 7,280 yards).
“On behalf of Kentucky men’s golf, we want to thank Lexington Country Club for allowing us to use their first-class facility the last couple of days,” head coach Gator Todd said. “We hosted this event with Cullan’s name on it to ensure that we continue to remember and honor his legacy and impact on the program, and it was a huge success in that respect.”
The tournament marked the first home event for the UK men’s golf program since 2015 and saw five Wildcats land inside the top 20 on the individual leaderboard. The “A” team finished in third at 44-over par, while the “B” team tied for sixth among the 15 competing teams at 50-over.
Sophomore Michael Hake had a breakout performance, tying for third individually at 3-over par, just one stroke behind the individual medalists. It marked the best career finish for Hake in what was his seventh collegiate start, as the Brentwood, Tenn. native mustered three consecutive rounds of 73 for a 54-hole total of 219.
From the “A” team, both Jansen Preston and Solomon Petrie also registered top 20 results, tying for 20th at 12-over par. It marked the second top 20 for Preston this fall and the first of Petrie’s collegiate career. Jacob Lang and Jacob Settles, a pair of freshmen representing the Kentucky “B” team, joined their teammates in a tie for 20th. Settles, who was making his collegiate debut this week, led the 84-player field in par-3 scoring average at 3.00.
“Our team did some good things on the course this week and it was great to get the entire roster some tournament experience,” Todd said. “I’m proud of our young guys. Michael [Hake] had an awesome week, and I also thought Settles and Lang both had really positive performances to build on.”
Kennesaw State was crowned team champion at 29-over par, while the Owls’ Claes Borregaard and North Alabama’s Andrew Ferworn, shared the individual title at 5-over.
Kentucky will wrap up the fall portion of its schedule at the Steelwood Collegiate Invitational, Oct. 26-27.
