Team Records and Series Information

  • Kentucky and Ohio are each 2-2 on the season.
  • The Wildcats lead the Bobcats, 5-2, in the all-time series, with all games played in Lexington.

 

Next Game

  • Kentucky has its first road game of the season Saturday, Sept. 28, at Ole Miss.
    • The game time is noon ET (11 a.m. CT in Oxford), and it will be televised on ABC or ESPN.

 

Team Notes

  • The Wildcats have won their last 18 straight regular-season nonconference games, the second-longest active streak in the nation.
  • UK has won 16 straight nonconference games at Kroger Field.
  • Thanks to Maxwell Hairston’s pick-six in the third quarter, this is the fifth straight season Kentucky has had an interception returned for touchdown.
    • It is the first time UK has assembled five straight seasons with a pick-six since 1968-72.
    • Should Iowa not record a pick six today, Kentucky, Iowa and Ohio State are tied for first in the nation in most pick sixes (11) since 2020.
    • Kentucky has earned at least one turnover in each game (four) this season.
  • Kentucky limited Ohio to 223 yards.  UK entered the game ninth in the nation in total defense.
    • UK has kept all four opponents under 300 yards this season, first time since the 2019 team did it five games in a row.
  • UK has allowed 50 points this season, fewest in the first four games of the season since 2008 (22 points in first four games).
  • UK allowed 200 yards passing or less in each of the first four games this season for the first time since 1989.
  • This marks the 28th consecutive season that UK has scored at least 37 points in a game, since 1997.

 

Coach Mark Stoops

  • Mark Stoops is in his 12th season as Kentucky’s head coach, a school record for the most seasons as the UK head coach and has the longest term of any current Southeastern Conference coach.
  • Stoops extended his school records for most total victories (65) and home victories (46).

 

Player Notes

  • QB Brock Vandagriff completed a career-high 17 of his 24 pass attempts for a career-high 237 yards.
    • He began the game 7-of-7 for 69 yards.
  • WR Barion Brown had five catches for 28 yards, while also recording a 23-yard touchdown rushing on his lone rush of the game.
    • It marked his first rushing touchdown of the season and second of his career.
  • WR Dane Key made a career-high-tying seven catches for a career-high 145 yards, including making a season-best 42-yard reception in the game.
    • It marked his second 100-yard game of his career, and his first this season.
    • He moved up eight spots – from 23rd to 15th – on the program’s career receiving list, with 1,419 yards.
  • RB Demie Sumo-Karngbaye had 12 rushes for 47 yards and a career-high two touchdowns.
    • He added three receptions for 38 yards.
  • RB Jamarion Wilcox had eight carries for a career-high 82 yards.
  • DB Maxwell Hairston had a tackle and a 25-yard, pick-six in the third quarter.
    • Hairston tied the school record – also owned by Dallas Owens (1974-77) – for most career interceptions returned for touchdowns with three.
    • Hairston now has six interceptions for his career.
  • DL’s Tre’vonn Rybka and Deone Walker an LB’s D’Eryk Jackson and Jamon Dumas-Johnson tied for the team high with four tackles apiece.
    • Rybka (-3 yards) and Walker (-5 yards) had a tackle for loss apiece.
  • K Alex Raynor extended his streak to 12 straight field goals – a stretch that began last season against Tennessee at Kroger Field on Oct. 28, 2023 – with two connections in today’s game.
    • His 12 straight field goals are a school record for most consecutive field goals.
      • The previous record was 11 by Austin MacGinnis, who did it twice – in the 2014-15 season and the 2017 season.
      • He has broken school records in two straight games, including his 55-yarder made last week against No. 1/1 Georgia on Sept. 14,
    • He opened the scoring with a 30-yard field goal in the first quarter and added a 34-yarder in the third quarter.
    • Raynor is now 19-of-20 at field goals and 54-of-55 at extra points in his career at Kentucky.
  • Freshman TE Willie Rodriguez made his first collegiate start.
