Men’s Soccer Opens Sun Belt Play with Draw and Clean Sheet

LEXINGTON, Ky. – In front of 1,201 members of Big Blue Nation, Kentucky men’s soccer (1-2-3, 0-0-1 Sun Belt) opened Sun Belt Conference play with a point and 0-0 draw against Georgia Southern (3-0-3, 0-0-1 Sun Belt) Friday evening at The Bell Soccer Complex.

In the first 45’ of regulation, the Wildcats and Eagles were unable to get a score on the board entering the 15-minute halftime period 0-0. UK recorded one shot on goal with five off target while Georgia Southern recorded four shots total with two on goal. The two on target Eagle shots were both saved by junior keeper Ryan Jack who earned his first start of the season in the net.

The second half of the conference contest proceeded in similar fashion as Jack recorded two more saves. His efforts earned the Wildcats their first clean sheet of the regular season schedule bringing the keeper’s 2024 record to 0-0-1. Kentucky tallied three shots on goal in the second period while 12 shots were attempted but fell off target. Georgia Southern was held to five shots, zero on goal.

Kentucky and Georgia Southern hold an updated all-time series record of 2-1-2 (UK) with the first contest taking place in 1994.

Friday’s match honored and recognized POW/MIA as Rolling Thunder Kentucky Chapter Five and Air Force ROTC Detachment 290 were in attendance at The Bell.

The Wildcats will now set their sights on the next Sun Belt contest in Morgantown, W.Va. taking on No. 5 West Virginia University (4-0-2).
