Jack Schoenberger, Jackson Klutznick Tie for 14th at Bearcat Invitational
CINCINNATI – The tandem of Jack Schoenberger and Jackson Klutznick tied for 14th on the individual leaderboard as the Bearcat Invitational at Coldstream Country Club (Par 71, 7,111 yards) concluded on Tuesday with Kentucky in 11th place as a team at 17-over par.
“We’re certainly disappointed in our performance this week,” said head coach Gator Todd. “We didn’t have enough guys step up the final 27 holes. Coldstream is a championship golf course, and it requires discipline and patience. I do feel like this week will make us better and I am proud of Jack and Jackson for the weeks they were able to have.”
Schoenberger and Klutznick registered matching scores of 214 (+1) for the 54-hole tournament to collect top 15 finishes. For Schoenberger, the result is his 16th straight top 20 finish, a streak which dates to his freshman season at Belmont in 2022-23. Klutznick, who played three seasons at Emory University before arriving in Lexington this year, picked up the 17th top 20 of his collegiate career and his first as a Wildcat.
Klutznick had the round of the day for UK on Tuesday, carding an even-par 71 to close his week. Birdies on No. 5 (par 5, 546 yards) and No. 11 (par 3, 234 yards) were offset by a pair of bogeys on No. 2 (par 3, 223 yards) and No. 13 (par 4, 484 yards). The graduate-student totaled eight birdies for the tournament and led the team with two rounds of par-or-better at the event.
After rounds of 67 and 75 yesterday, Schoenberger wrapped up his tournament with a 1-over 72 on Tuesday. Starting on No. 9, the junior reeled off a trio of birdies on Coldstream’s back nine but registered four bogeys coming in on the front side, completing his round, and tournament, at 1-over par. Schoenberger led the Wildcats with 10 birdies and one eagle this week.
Freshman Gavin Clutts and senior Jansen Preston contributed the other two counting scores for Kentucky on Tuesday with rounds of 74 and 75, respectively. Clutts ended the tournament tied for 67th at 10-over par, while Preston tied for 54th with an 8-over total. The senior captain maintains his perfect counting score percentage this season, with all six of his rounds going toward the team total.
Jacob Lang, who was making his college debut this week, notched a T83 finish in his first event at 14-over par.
Louisville secured the team title for the week at 6-under par, besting the 18-team field. The Cardinals’ Sebastian Moss and Cincinnati’s Ryan Ford shared individual honors, also at 6-under.
Kentucky will have some time off before returning to competition for the Windon Memorial Classic at Conway Farms Golf Club, Sept. 29-30.
