No. 21 Women’s Soccer Hosts Kent State for Senior Night

LEXINGTON, Ky. – No. 21 Kentucky women’s soccer (7-0-0) will celebrate 13 seniors Friday evening when they host Kent State (3-1-1) at the Bell Soccer Complex tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. The match will be televised on SECN+.

The Wildcats will celebrate the following representatives of the class of 2024: Mia Bookhard, Kennedy Chambers, Nikki Coryell, Catherine DeRosa, Marz Josephson, Maddie Kemp, Lesley Kiesling, Sophia Mattice, Tallulah Miller, Grace Phillpotts, Jadyn Rupnow, Elsi Twombly and Makala Woods.

Newly ranked No. 21 Kentucky enters the match after winning their seventh straight game, their sixth in the Bell, in 2024 with their 2-0 upset of No. 9 women’s soccer powerhouse UCLA. Goals from scoring leader Makala Woods and Catherine DeRosa saw the Wildcats take down the giant in a defining moment for the program and returned the Cats to the United Soccer Coaches national polls for the first time since October 2023. The victory also solidified the best start to a season in 13 years matching the 7-0 start from the Wildcats in 2011.

Through seven games this season, Kentucky has outscored opponents 15-2 while outshooting them 141-38 with 53-10 shots on goal. While the offense has been firing on all cylinders and ranks in the top 20 in the nation in shots per game (20.14), goalkeeper Marz Josephson and the defense have been stellar ranking in the top 10 in the country in goals against average (0.286).

The Golden Flashes make their first-ever trip to the Bluegrass tomorrow as they take on the Wildcats in the first meeting between the two programs. Kent State enters the match after losing 2-4 to Duquesne.

In a game filled with second-half goals, the Golden Flashes started the final 45 minutes down 1-0 at the half. The Dukes doubled their advantage eight minutes later before Kent State’s scoring leader Alisa Arthur notched a goal back in the 58th minute to cut the deficit in half.  The Dukes pushed their advantage up again just seconds later and did the same later in the match after Arthur scored her second of the game in the 79th minute in the 4-2 loss.

Season tickets for all Kentucky soccer men’s and women’s home games can be purchased here, while single-game tickets are available here.
