Jansen Preston Cards Even Par, Kentucky Tied for Ninth at Folds of Honor
GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – Round two of the 2024 Folds of Honor Collegiate saw the Kentucky men’s golf team shave eight strokes off their day one total, firing a 6-over par 290 on Tuesday at American Dunes Golf Club. The Wildcats sit in a tie for ninth place at 20-over par alongside Arkansas with 18 holes remaining in the tournament.
All five players in the Kentucky lineup matched or bettered their round one scores during the second round, led by senior Jansen Preston, who turned in an even-par, 71. Preston’s score, powered by four birdies, vaulted him 13 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 23rd. The Lexington native, who started his day on No. 10, played his final three holes in two-under par with birdies on No. 7 and No. 9.
Junior Jack Schoenberger continues to lead Kentucky individually, residing in a tie for 18th place on the leaderboard at 3-over par total. Schoenberger fired a 1-over par 72 on Tuesday with three birdies over his final five holes.
Freshman Gavin Clutts and redshirt sophomore Solomon Petrie were also counting scores for the Cats for the second-consecutive day. Clutts posted the best round of his young college career with a 73 (+2), while Petrie replicated his round one effort of 74 (+3). Heading into tomorrow’s final round, Petrie is tied for 33rd at 6-over par, while Clutts follows closely behind at 7-over and in a tie for 37th.
Graduate Jackson Klutznick managed Kentucky’s largest improvement from round one, dropping seven strokes for a second round 75 (+4). The native of Denver, Colorado is tied for 65th at 15-over par total.
Alabama maintains a one-shot lead in the team competition at 5-under par, a stroke ahead of Illinois. The Crimson Tide’s Dominic Clemons is the individual leader at 7-under for the tournament. Final round coverage of the Folds of Honor Collegiate can be seen tomorrow on Golf Channel from 4:30-7:30 p.m.
The Folds of Honor collegiate benefits the non-profit organization, Folds of Honor, which provides educational scholarships to the children and spouses of military members who have fallen or been disabled while serving in the United States Armed Forces. The tournament is in its third year overall with Kentucky participating for the second-consecutive season in 2024.
