Brooke Oberparleiter Inside Top 10, Cats in Eighth After Round One of Bettie Lou Evans Invitational
LEXINGTON, Ky. – In its first round of the 2024-25 season, Kentucky women’s golf posted a 17-over par score of 305 at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational at Champion Trace at Keene Trace Golf Club on Sunday. The score puts the Wildcats in eighth place in the 11-team field, 10 shots behind leader TCU with 36 holes still to play.
Sophomore Brooke Oberparleiter, playing as an individual this week, was the low scorer for the Cats on the day, posting a 1-over par 73 which featured four birdies. A native of Laurel Springs, New Jersey, Oberparleiter made birdies on No. 2, No. 4 and No. 8 on her outward nine and added one on No. 15 coming in. She sits tied for seventh after 18 holes of play.
“Our team played with a great deal of heart and passion today,” head coach Golda Borst said. “Having such a young team presents the opportunity for a lot of growth and we did a lot of great things on the course. I’m excited about the group we have. They love to represent Kentucky. We look forward to the next two days and the opportunity to move up the leaderboard.”
UK’s four counting scores on day one were posted by Marta López Echevarría (75), C.A. Carter (76), Elin Pudas Remler (77) and Raleygh Simpson (77). The Wildcats’ fifth starter, sophomore Cathryn Brown, followed closely behind with a 6-over round of 78. The Kentucky starting lineup totaled 11 birdies on the day, led by four from Simpson. López Echevarría’s 3-over par total places her inside the top 20 at T19. Carter finds herself at T25 on the leaderboard while Remler and Simpson are both tied for 32nd.
Joining Oberparleiter as individuals at Kentucky’s home event were Anastasia Hekkonen and Karlie Campbell, who finished with rounds of 79 (+7) and 80 (+8), respectively.
