Julia Grosso Returns to United States, Signs with Utah Royals
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Julia Grosso, a Kentucky women’s soccer alumna from 2017-2021, is returning to the United States to continue her professional soccer career. After spending the last two years in Australia, the Florida native returns to the United States signing with National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Utah Royals Football Club.
Grosso becomes the third Kentucky women’s soccer alumna to play in the NWSL joining Courtney Raetzman, who was drafted by the Chicago Red Stars in 2016, and Arin Wright, who currently plays for Racing Louisville Football Club.
As announced by the club on Sunday, Grosso joins the team as a free agent and is set to participate during its 2024 campaign.
While in Australia, Grosso, appeared in 37 matches for Melbourne City Football Club notching two goals in her time with the City Blues. Since going pro, Grosso has earned 2022-23 A-League Player of the Year honors as a rookie along with a 2023-24 Premiers title, finishing atop of the A-League Women’s table that season. MCFC defeated Newcastle Jets 6-0 in a two-match aggregate Semi-Finals before falling to Sydney FC 1-0 in the Grand Final.
While at Kentucky, Grosso made 84 appearances for the Wildcats, scoring four goals in her collegiate career and captaining the side during her last two years. Grosso graduated from the University of Kentucky logging 5754 minutes on the pitch.
