First Soft Opening of Historic Memorial Coliseum Set For Friday
LEXINGTON, Ky. – In the first of what are four soft openings for Historic Memorial Coliseum, the Kentucky Volleyball team will welcome fans back into the renowned building for the 2024 home opener Friday, August 30 at 6:30 p.m. ET for a match against Northern Kentucky.
Doors to Historic Memorial Coliseum will open at 5:30 p.m. ET and will feature giveaways of collectibles for fans in attendance. As members of Big Blue Nation enter the reimagined arena, branded clear bags in line with the Southeastern Conference’s clear bag policy will be handed out to each fan that comes through the gates.
Additionally, there will be locations to collect a commemorative ticket from Friday’s soft opening and volleyball rally towels that fans can use to help create a home-court advantage during the match.
Prior to the match, the 2023 SEC Championship team will be celebrated as part of the recognition of many of the teams that have made history at Kentucky.
Tickets for Friday’s match with Northern Kentucky and all 15 home matches in the 2024 season are available at UKathletics.com/tickets. The opening match Friday night is part of the 2024 Bluegrass Battle featuring a round-robin with other in-state schools Western Kentucky, Morehead State and Northern Kentucky running Friday through Sunday inside Historic Memorial Coliseum.
The soft openings for each sport that calls Historic Memorial Coliseum home, including Kentucky women’s basketball, gymnastics and STUNT, will all be similar to the Friday opening. Specific details about each of those teams’ first home events will be announced at later dates. All soft openings will build up to the grand opening of Historic Memorial Coliseum in the spring of 2025, the 75th anniversary of the Kentucky treasure opening.
