Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone Advances to Olympic Final in 400m Hurdles

PARIS, France – Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone won her semifinal heat of the 400m hurdles at the Olympic Games on Tuesday, qualifying the Tokyo 2020 gold medalist to Thursday’s final. The fastest women in history across the 400-meter hurdles was the top qualifier across three semifinal heats at the Stade de France, posting a winning time of 52.13. McLaughlin-Levrone will race again on Thursday, August 8, contesting the Olympic final at 3:25 ET with coverage on NBC and Peacock.

Running at Kentucky during the 2018 season, McLaughlin-Levrone was the SEC and NCAA champion in the same discipline, and currently holds the collegiate record. She is also a three-time Olympian, debuting at Rio in 2016 and making the semifinal in the 400m hurdles. At Tokyo, McLaughlin-Levrone took home a pair of gold medals, winning the 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay.

Five Kentucky Track and Field athletes will take to the track on Wednesday, including the Paris 2024 debut for Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, Masai Russell, and Devynne Charlton (Volunteer Assistant Coach/Purdue Alum) in the 100m hurdles. The three Wildcats racing in the short hurdles will kick off their Olympic campaigns at 4:15 a.m. ET. After a session break, Daniel Roberts and Alexis Holmes will each return for their respective semifinal rounds. Roberts will look for his first trip to an Olympic final in his second Games when he races in the 110m hurdles at 1:05 p.m. ET. 90 minutes later, first-time Olympian Alexis Holmes will look to secure her trip to the 400m final at 2:45 p.m. ET.
