UKTF Alumni Shine on Day Five of U.S. Olympic Trials

EUGENE, Ore. – After a two-day hiatus, the Kentucky track & field program and its alumni resumed competition at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials this evening at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. A night that saw various athletes in various stages of their respective competitions proved positive as four Wildcats in total survived and advanced to see another day of competition.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone (UKTF 2017-18) stole the show this evening after dominating the women’s 400-meter hurdles to close out the track events in Eugene. McLaughlin-Levrone won the first rounds event in a commanding season-best 53.07. She earned the final automatic qualifier in the track events on the night and will compete again in the semifinals on Saturday.

Alumnae Abby Steiner ’22 kept the momentum going in the women’s 200 meters first rounds where she finished second in her heat and third overall in 22.29. She also earned an automatic qualifier to Friday’s semifinal round.

On the field side of things, alumnus Andrew Evans ’14 finished second in the men’s discus throw qualifier with a mark of 214’3”/65.31 meters and advances to Saturday’s final.

Alumnus Micaela Hazlewood ’19 finished seventh in the discus throw with a mark of 193’4”/58.93 meters while Sha’keela Saunders ’17 finished 13th in the long jump with a mark of 21’0.50”/6.41 meters.
