Kentucky, North Carolina Square Off in Chapel Hill for SEC/ACC Challenge on Dec. 5

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team will play North Carolina in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, on Thursday, Dec. 5 as part of the second-annual Southeastern Conference/Atlantic Coast Conference Challenge.

The Wildcats defeated the Tar Heels in their most recent meeting, 85-75, on Nov. 24, 2018, at the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands. That triumph helped the Cats claim their second straight Paradise Jam tournament title, with the first occurrence in 2014.

Kentucky trails the all-time series with North Carolina, 1-5, including 0-2 in Chapel Hill. The last time UK played UNC in Chapel Hill was Nov. 28, 2001, dropping the regular-season game, 102-64.

The tip time and network designation for the UK-UNC game is still tentative.

North Carolina went 20-13 overall and 11-7 in the ACC in 2023-24, losing to Kenny Brooks’ Virginia Tech team twice on the season. The Tar Heels advanced to the NCAA Tournament Second Round before falling to eventual champions the South Carolina Gamecocks, 88-41.

Last season, Kentucky took down Boston College in the inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge, 83-81, on a last-second layup by then-senior Eniya Russell on Nov. 30 at the Clive M. Beck Center.

The Wildcats are ranked 25th in the most recent ESPN Way-Too-Early Top 25. Brooks’ roster features two returners and 11 newcomers, including Tar Heel junior transfer Teonni Key. The Cats boast an experienced yet balanced roster, consisting of three freshmen, three sophomores, four juniors, a redshirt senior and two graduate students, including All-American and Final Four participant Georgia Amoore.

The student-athletes are beginning their move to Lexington, while their first workout is scheduled for late June.

Big Blue Nation is encouraged to place a deposit to secure their place in line for season tickets. Those who make deposits will be contacted beginning in late July to choose their seats, after the seat selection process for current ticket holders is complete.

Returning season ticket holders will have the opportunity to select their seats even earlier from June 17 to July 19.

The remainder of the 2024-25 Kentucky women’s basketball schedule will be released at a later date.
