UKTF Qualify Six on Final Day of NCAA East First Rounds

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Kentucky Track and Field women’s program concluded the NCAA Division I East First Rounds at the Outdoor Track and Field Facility today adding six additional qualifiers to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon. In total, the women’s side will have eight student-athletes in the Beaver State with the program sending a total of 15 student-athletes to compete in June.

Defending NCAA outdoor high jump champion Charity Hufnagel punched her ticket to the northwest today tying for the win in her specialty event. The Indiana native returns to defend her title after clearing 6’0.50”/1.84 meters today.

Senior Jania Martin and freshman Oneika McAnnuff qualified on time for the 400 meters this afternoon. The pair punched their tickets with McAnnuff in 10th with a personal best time of 51.70 and Martin in 11th with a personal best time of 51.71. The duo also moved themselves up in the record book sitting in fourth and fifth respectively. This will be Martin’s third NCAA Outdoor Championships and first representing the Wildcats.

Senior Sydney Steely earned an automatic qualifier for the outdoor championships after finishing her 800 meter heat in third place. Her time of 2:02.73 saw her place 12th overall in the quarterfinals. This will be Steely’s first NCAA Outdoor Championships with the Wildcats.

The women’s 4×400 meter relay team closed out the night with a season-best time of 3:30.09. The team consisting of Martin, McAnnuff, senior Reynei Wallace, and freshman Cha’iel Johnson qualified for the outdoor championships on time placing 11th overall.

400m

The pair punched their tickets with McAnnuff in 10th with a personal best time of 51.70 and Martin in 11th with a personal best time of 51.71. The duo also moved themselves up in the record book sitting in fourth and fifth respectively. This will be Martin’s third NCAA Outdoor Championships and first representing the Wildcats.
