Kentucky Softball’s Rylea Smith Wins SEC Player of the Week

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky Softball fifth-year senior Rylea Smith was named the Southeastern Conference player of the week Tuesday afternoon, garnering the honor for the first time in her career.

As Kentucky downed No. 7 Georgia in a three-game series over the weekend at John Cropp Stadium, Smith went 8-for-12 this week against the Bulldogs, logging a .667 batting average, a pair on RBI and seven base hits and a pair of stolen bases.

Smith had a key lead-off double in the Sunday series finale against the Bulldogs to get the offense started for Kentucky’s big inning, and in LF made a terrific catch up against the fence for the crucial first out of the seventh inning to secure the series win over the Bulldogs. Smith on the weekend had no defensive errors, as well as only four total at bats out of 12 where she did not reach base safely.

Kentucky plays at Western Kentucky on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET from Bowling Green. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ and the ESPN app before the Wildcats step back into SEC play this weekend at Auburn for a three-game series beginning Saturday afternoon on The Plains.
