No. 7 Georgia Evens Series Behind Five-Run Second Inning

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Georgia Bulldogs used a five-run second inning Saturday afternoon to even its series with Kentucky, knocking off the Wildcats 6-4 to set up a rubber match on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Kentucky got a two-run home run from senior Grace Lorsung in the bottom of the fourth inning to make what was a 5-0 Georgia lead shrink to two runs at 5-3, but the Bulldogs got a run back thanks to a solo bomb in the sixth and withstood a seventh-inning rally by Kentucky, which saw the Wildcats bring the go-ahead run to the bases and the tying run to the plate, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the contest.

Freshman Sydney Langdon suffered her fourth loss of the season in the circle for UK. Georgia’s Madison Kerpics picked up her 11th win of the season to move to 11-1 on the year, as she went 4.0 innings with three runs on three hits. Alexia Lacatena threw 4.2 innings for Kentucky on Saturday, allowing three earned runs and striking out three batters as opposed to walking only one. Jaden Vickers pitched a scoreless seventh inning for Kentucky.

The Bulldogs’ big inning came after three-straight walks and a two-out, 3-2 grand slam by Dallis Goodnight as she hit her first home run of the season. All runs that UGA scored in the game Saturday were via the long ball with the Bulldogs popping two solo home runs in addition to its second inning grand slam.

The series between Kentucky and Georgia will wrap up Sunday at 2:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2 with a rubber match as Matt Schumacker and Amanda Scarbrough will be on the call from John Cropp Stadium in Lexington.
