Tate Sandman Named to SEC Men’s Tennis Community Service Team
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Tate Sandman, a senior from Raleigh, N.C., was named to the 2024 Southeastern Conference Men’s Tennis Community Service Team, the league announced Thursday afternoon. The honor marks the third consecutive year that Sandman has been named to the team, as he has consistently displayed his character through the donation of his time to a plethora of causes.
This year, Sandman has amassed 20 hours of volunteer work, mainly in partnership with the Surgical Associates of Lexington, where he assists in the taking of patients’ vitals, as well as contributing to the overall well-being of patients through his positive and uplifting attitude. Throughout his collegiate career, Sandman has totaled over 100 hours of community service with various causes and organizations, such as Wildcat Clinic, Acting Autism, the Julie Ditty Tennis Foundation, Kentucky Children’s Hospital, and God’s Pantry. For his outstanding character on and off the court, Sandman was inducted into the Frank G. Ham Society of Character in February of 2023.
On the court, Sandman has been voted a 2023-2024 team captain by his fellow Wildcats and was a member of the 2023 SEC Tournament Champion and 2022 NCAA Tournament Runner-Up teams. He also appeared in two ITA Doubles Rankings during his freshman year.
Sandman, a Human Health Sciences major graduating in the Spring of 2024, has also excelled in the classroom, earning recognition on multiple Dean’s Lists at the University of Kentucky, as well as the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll (2022 & 2023), SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll (2021), and as an ITA Scholar-Athlete (2021 & 2023).
The SEC has named a Community Service Team in all sponsored sports since 2004 in a continuing effort to highlight the accomplishments of student-athletes beyond the field of play,
