Six From Swimming & Diving Land CSC Academic All-District Honors
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Six student-athletes from UK Swimming and Diving have been selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team, it was announced on Tuesday. Honorees include Anna Havens Rice, Claire McDaniels, Kaelan Daly and Caroline Benda from the women’s team, and Zane Rosely and JT Broome from the men’s side.
The criteria for the CSC Academic All-District selections are as follows:
- Be at least a sophomore academically and athletically
- An undergraduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA
- A graduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA as both an undergraduate and graduate-student
- Transfer student-athletes who are in their first semester at new institution must have at least a 3.50 GPA at their former institution
- Eligible individuals need to compete in at least four competitions OR finish top-eight at a conference meet
- Institutions are limited to four men’s and four women’s recipients
A sub-committee will evaluate the candidacy of College Sports Communicators Academic All-District awardees to determine if they will advance to be considered for Academic All-American status. The title of Academic All-American is reserved for student-athletes who perform at an elite level in their sport and in the classroom. Academic All-Americans for women’s swimming & diving will be announced April 23, while the men’s selections will be revealed on April 24

Caroline Benda: The junior Parkton, Md native was recognized as a 2023 SEC Academic Honor Roll athlete. She currently holds the fourth fastest time in the 1000 freestyle in UK history at 9:45.40. She finished second in the 400 IM at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship. Benda is currently majoring in Agricultural and Medical Biotechnology.
JT Broome: A sophomore Greer, S.C. native, Broome holds top-10 Kentucky program times in the 100 breaststroke (10th) and 200 breaststroke (10th), both set this season. He was a C-finalist in the 100 Breast at the SEC Championships this year and is majoring in Integrated Strategic Communication at UK.
Kaelan Daly: The junior Human Health Sciences major from Hatfield, Pa. was recognized on the 2023 SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll. She set a personal best in the 50 freestyle at this year’s SEC Championships, swimming a 22.96.
Claire McDaniels: The senior 2023-2024 captain from Chapel Hill, N.C was a 2021 NCAA Qualifier and ranks sixth all-time in the women’s 1-meter dive in Kentucky history. McDaniels was a platform finalist at the 2024 SEC Championships and a NCAA Zones qualifier in both platform and the 1-meter. She was also recognized as a 2023 SEC Winter Sports Academic Honor Roll athlete and is an International Studies major.
Anna Havens Rice: Havens Rice is a two-time qualifier for NCAAs and a 2021 All-American Honorable Mention in the 400 IM. She was recognized in 2022 and 2023 as an SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll athlete. The senior Chemistry major has been named to the CSCAA Scholar All-American First Team in 2020-21 and 2021-22 . The Greenville, S.C. native was also honored on the CSC Academic All-America team last season. She currently holds UK all-time top-10 times in the 100 breaststroke (10th), 200 butterfly (5th), 200 IM (7th) and 400 IM (6th). Havens-Rice was an A-finalist in the 400 IM at the 2024 SEC Championships and also reached the B-final in the 200 fly and 200 IM.
Zane Rosely: A senior from White Lake, Michigan, Rosely is a 2021 NCAA qualifier, a member of the 2021 All-SEC Freshman Team and earned a place on the CSCAA Scholar All-America First Team in 2021 and 2023. Serving as a captain for the 2023-24 season, the Finance and Management double major was also selected to the SEC Swimming & Diving Community Service Team this year. He holds top-10 program times in the 500 (7th), 1000 (4th) and 1650 (6th) freestyle, 200 butterfly (7th) and 400 IM (4th). Rosely was also a CSC Academic All-District selection in 2022-23 and a finalist at the 2024 SEC Championships in the 500 free, 200 fly and 400 IM.
