Kentucky Football Begins Spring Practice on Tuesday
After a school record eighth consecutive bowl game appearance in 2023, the Kentucky football team begins spring practice on Tuesday.
Kentucky finished 7-6 last season, including an upset of then-No. 9 Louisville in the Derby City. The Cats lost a 38-35 heartbreaker to Clemson in the TaxSlayer Gator Bowl to complete the season.
Head coach Mark Stoops, the winningest coach in school history, has 73 wins in 11 seasons at the helm of the program.
UK returns eight starters on offense, 10 on defense and three specialists. Among the offensive starters returning are four offensive linemen (Jager Burton, Eli Cox, Marques Cox and Dylan Ray), two wide receivers (Barion Brown and Dane Key) and two tight ends (Jordan Dingle and Josh Kattus).
Those offensive returnees will be under the direction of new offensive coordinator Bush Hamdan, who comes to Kentucky after serving as offensive coordinator at his alma mater, Boise State.
The defensive returning starters include four defensive linemen (Octavious Oxendine, Tre’vonn Rybka, Keeshawn Silver and Deone Walker), three defensive backs (Zion Childress, Maxwell Hairston and Jordan Lovett), two linebackers (D’Eryk Jackson and J.J. Weaver) and nickel back Alex Afari.
Specialists returning for 2024 are punter Wilson Berry, kicker Alex Raynor and long snapper Walker Himebauch.
Spring practice will consist of 15 dates, beginning on Tuesday and ending on Thursday, April 18. The Blue-White Spring Game will be played on Saturday, April 13 at 1 p.m. at Kroger Field.
