Makenzie Wilson Named SEC Specialist of the Week
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior Makenzie Wilson has been named Southeastern Conference Specialist of the Week due to her perfect performance on vault last Friday, the conference announced on Tuesday.
The perfect score was the second of her career on the apparatus. The Clinton, Tenn. native earned the first perfect 10.0 during this year’s home opener which was the first ever recorded in Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center since Excite Night began 40 years ago. The mark was also the first for the program since the legendary Jenny Hansen competed for the Wildcats, 1992-96.
Wilson’s front handspring pike with a half twist was nothing short of perfection as she ended the first rotation of Friday’s meet in the anchor position. Prior to 2024, her previous career and season best was a 9.975 which she earned against Auburn (03/03/23). She has now recorded seven individual wins on the event.
The junior’s conference honor is the second of her career earning her first in January. She was named Specialist of the Week for her stellar 10.0 vault performance against Georgia. Wilson currently ranks No. 1 in the nation on the event for Week 9 following six consecutive weeks in the top-five.
The Cats will head to Chapel Hill, N.C. on Friday to take on UNC for a 7:30 p.m. EST matchup which can be streamed live on ACCNX.
