Vickers Throws Gem in 6-1 Win Over Monmouth on Saturday

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Senior pitcher Jaden Vickers threw a complete-game gem Saturday afternoon, going the distance with one run allowed on just three hits with a walk and four strikeouts on the day as No. 13 Kentucky knocked off the Monmouth Hawks, 6-1.

Erin Coffel hit her fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the fourth inning and Ally Hutchins and Peyton Plotts both had RBIs in the contest Saturday as the Wildcats scored a pair of unearned runs in addition to the four earned marks un the game.

The Wildcats scored a run in each of the first four innings, including a three spot in the bottom of the third as UK got to the big inning quickly and put the game away. UK outhit the Hawks eight to three in the game and again had a clean defensive performance with no errors in the contest.

With the win, Kentucky improves to 9-2 on the season as Jaden Vickers in the circle picked up her second win in as many days to get ger mark to 4-0 on the season in the circle for the Wildcats. UK will close out its portion of the Saturday schedule in the Wings Etc. Classic at 12:30 p.m. ET on Saturday against the Akron Zips. UK knocked off Akron 7-3 in Friday’s tournament opener.

Key Play 

The key play in the game was a double play turned by Margaret Tobias and Lauryn Borzilleri in the top of the seventh inning with two runners on and no outs.

Key Player  

The key player was Jaden Vickers, who went the distance, allowing just one run on three hits with four strikeouts.

Key Stat 

The key stat was zero. UK had zero errors in the game.

Run Recap 

In the bottom of the first inning, Vanessa Nesby singled, stole second, advanced to third on a ground ball and scored on a wild pitch to open the scoring for UK. UK 1, MON 0

In the bottom of the second, Lauryn Borzilleri doubled off the base of the wall in right center, and scored on a Hawk error. UK 2, MON 0

Three runs crossed for UK in the bottom of the third on Monmouth errors in addition to an Ally Hutchins RBI single up the middle. UK 5, MON 0

Erin Coffel hit a solo home run with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning. UK 6, MON 0

A groundout that turned into a double play scored the only Hawk run of the game. FINAL – Kentucky 6, Monmouth 1
