RISP Woes Spoil Langdon’s Terrific Collegiate Debut to No. 24 SDSU

SAN DIEGO – Freshman pitcher Sydney Langdon was sensational Saturday night as she pitched a complete game vs. No. 24 San Diego State only allowing three hits, two runs and striking out 10 batters, but the run support couldn’t quite come through for the Wildcats as UK left nine runners on base in the game and six in scoring position to suffer the 2-1 loss.

The loss is the first for Kentucky who falls to 3-1 on the year, suffering its first defeat of the young season. San Diego State improves to 3-0 with its win.

Kentucky will close out the SDSU Season Kickoff on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET against Minnesota.

The game’s only two runs for the Aztecs came in a unique circumstance in the bottom of the third inning. With a runner on first and two outs in the frame, batter Cece Macario reached first on a dropped third strike and the next batter roped a two-RBI hit into center to score two runs and turn a 1-0 UK lead into a 2-1 Aztec advantage.

UK would put seven runners on base in the final four innings, leaving all of them stranded on the basepaths and five of the seven in scoring position including bases loaded in the fifth.

Sydney Landgon was the brightspot for the night, throwing six complete innings with one walk and 10 strikeouts. Due to the dropped third strike, none of the runs were earned runs and she only allowed three hits in her collegiate debut.
