Kentucky Women's Basketball Plays Host to Mississippi State in Rupp Arena on Thursday

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Kentucky women’s basketball program will play host to RV/RV Mississippi State on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. ET at Rupp Arena at Central Bank Center. It will mark the program’s annual Equality & Inclusion Night, which will include a halftime step-show performance by the UK National Pan-Hellenic Council.

The game will be broadcast on SEC Network+, with Jeff Piecoro and Christi Thomas on the call. Big Blue Nation also can listen in to the play-by-play on UK Sports Network and / or 630 AM WLAP (locally), with the Voice of the Wildcats, Darren Headrick on the mic.

The Wildcats are 9-12 this season, including 2-5 in Southeastern Conference action and 9-3 in home games. The Cats are averaging 66 points per game and 33.9 rebounds per game. They are led in both scoring and rebounding by senior forward Ajae Petty, a Baltimore, Maryland, native, who is recording 14.4 points per game and 10.9 rebounds per game. Senior guard Maddie Scherr is close behind, recording 13.8 points per game and 4.7 rebounds per game. The two are also steal machines, as Scherr leads with 28 through her 17 games and Petty adds 26 through her 21 games played in 2023-24.

In fact, Petty is currently second in the league and sixth in the nation in rebounds (230), while she also is second in the league in field-goal percentage (54.9).

Kentucky leads Mississippi State in the all-time series, 31-23, while UK also leads in games played in Lexington, 14-9.

Mississippi State, who is coming off an upset to then-No. 9 LSU on Sunday, is 17-5 this season, including 4-3 in the SEC and 5-2 in road games. The Bulldogs are ranked third in field goals made (28.7) and assists per game (16.6), fourth in points per game (76.9) and fifth in rebounds per game (42.6) in the league.
