Kentucky Falls at Alabama on Sunday
The Kentucky women’s basketball team had five players score in double figures on Sunday, but it was not enough as the Cats lost at Alabama 91-74.
Brooklynn Miles and Saniah Tyler each scored 14 points, while Amiya Jenkins had 13. Eniya Russell and Maddie Scherr each had 11 points for UK.
Kentucky (9-12, 2-5 Southeastern Conference) scored first on a Petty layup before Alabama scored four in a row. The Cats tied the game at 4-4 on an Amiya Jenkins layup, but the Tide again answered with four straight. Kentucky then went on an 8-0 run, with threes by Jenkins and Tyler, to take a 12-8 advantage. UK would lead for the remainder of the period, holding a 20-16 lead after 10 minutes of play.
The Cats scored first in the second period when Emma King made a layup. But Alabama answered with an 11-2 run to lead 27-24. The Cats would fight back, and the game would be tied at 27 and 29 before the Tide went on a 15-5 run to lead 44-34. Alabama would lead 46-36 at the half.
Alabama opened the third quarter with a 15-2 run to lead 61-38. The Tide would outscore the Cats 24-11 in the period and would take a 70-48 lead into the final quarter.
The Cats started the final stanza with a 7-2 run but UK could get no closer than 17 points in the fourth quarter.
Alabama got 34 points from Sarah Ashlee Barker, who led all scorers.
Kentucky returns to action on Thursday, hosting Mississippi State at Rupp Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. ET and the game can be seen on SEC Network Plus.
