Kentucky, Indiana Square Off in Spring Dual
ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Kentucky women’s golf team will square off against Indiana in a spring dual on Sunday, Jan. 28 at 7:30 a.m. ET at Grand Cypress Golf Club in Orlando, Florida.
All but on player will attend and compete in the informal event, while senior Laney Frye wraps up her time at the LPGA Drive On Championship in Bradenton, Florida.
Five Wildcats will go head-to-head in match play against the Hoosiers, including Marissa Wenzler, Jensen Castle, María Villanueva Aperribay, Marta López Echevarría and Brooke Oberparleiter. The remaining two Cats will compete in stroke play, including Abigial Sutherland and Cathryn Brown.
Unique to this occasion, Kentucky is well acquainted with the Indiana program. IU head coach Brian May, a Frankfort, Kentucky, native, was UK’s assistant coach for eight seasons under Golda Borst (2014-22), including its historic 2021 NCAA Championship appearance.
The Kentucky-Indiana matchup kicks off an anticipated spring season that is to feature four tournaments before the Southeastern Conference Championship in Belleair, Florida, and a hopeful postseason run.
The Wildcats are coming off a momentous fall, posting a 290.0 team stroke average (+2.0) and a pair of top-five team finishes. That resume includes recording an 832 (-20) in their season opener at the Cougar Classic, marking the third-best tournament total in program history.
Kentucky players also produced 21 par-or-better rounds, including 11 rounds in the 60s, and six individual top-20 finishes, including four individual top-10 finishes.
Live scoring will not be available for the informal event, although fans are encouraged to return to UKathletics.com on Sunday evening for a recap of the matchup.
