Kentucky Track & Field to Begin 2023-24 Season at Indiana Early Bird Meet

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky track & field program will compete in its first meet of the indoor track & field season, the Indiana Early Bird Meet, on Friday, Dec. 8 in the Gladstein Fieldhouse, hosted by Indiana University.

The meet begins at noon ET with the 60-meter hurdles in the women’s pentathlon. The field events will begin at 3:45 p.m. ET while the track events begin at 5:10 p.m. EST.

The Wildcats will compete against Butler, Cincinnati, Indiana, Indiana East, IUPUI, Missouri Baptist, Oakland City, Pikeville, Principia, and Saint Louis.

Notable Returners & Additions

The 2023-24 Wildcats will see the return of the 2022-23 SEC Indoor and Outdoor Pole Vault champion and three-time All-American Keaton Daniel for his senior season. The men’s squad will also return All-Americans Luke Brown and Kennedy Lightner.

In addition to 12 new freshman recruits, the men’s squad added four transfers in the offseason, All-American Ethan Brown, Dustin Horter, Brayden Jackson, and All-MEAC Jahlahnee Watkins.

All-American Victoria Perrow who took silver at the outdoor SEC & NCAA championships in the 4×100 meter relay last season returns to the Wildcats for the 2023-24 season. All-Americans Jenna Schwinghamer and Sydney Steely return after setting a new school record in the Distance Medley Relay last season.

In addition to 23 new freshman recruits, the women’s squad added seven transfers in the offseason, BIG 10 Indoor Bronze Medalist Maria Anderson, All-American Alexis Glasco, All-American and defending NCAA Outdoor High Jump champion Charity Hufnagel, All-American Alysia Johnson, All-American Jania Martin as well as Kristen Massucci and Ariel Pedigo.
