Six From Women’s Soccer Selected to CSC Academic All-District Team
LEXINGTON, Ky. – College Sports Communicators announced its Women’s Soccer Academic All-District selections on Tuesday, a group which includes Kentucky student-athletes Maggy Henschler, Taya Hjorth, Marz Josephson, Maya Lacognato, Payton Robertson and Anna Young.
The criteria for College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selections in the sport of women’s soccer are as follows:
- Be at least a sophomore academically and athletically
- An undergraduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA
- A graduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA as both an undergraduate and graduate-student
- Transfer student-athletes who are in their first semester at new institution must have at least a 3.50 GPA at their former institution
- Student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution’s games played or start in at least 66 percent of games played
- Institutions are limited to six award recipients
A sub-committee will evaluate the candidacy of College Sports Communicators Academic All-District awardees to determine if they will advance to be considered for Academic All-American status. The title of Academic All-American is reserved for student-athletes who perform at an elite level in their sport and in the classroom. Academic All-Americans for women’s soccer will be announced on Dec. 20.

Maggy Henschler: A captain on the 2023 Wildcats roster, Henschler started 18 games this season at center back for Kentucky. She was third on the team in minutes played with 1,560, and played the full 90 minutes in all 10 of the team’s SEC regular season contests. A graduate student from Janesville, Wis., Henschler is currently pursuing her MBA at UK.
Taya Hjorth: A junior from Commerce Township, Mich., Hjorth made 16 starts this season while appearing in 18 games for the Wildcats. The center back scored her first collegiate goal during Kentucky’s victory over UT Martin back on Aug. 31, and was fifth on the team in total minutes at 1,532. Hjorth is currently studying Exercise Science at UK.
Marz Josephson: Josephson served as Kentucky’s starting goalkeeper this season, playing all 1,730 minutes of the season in net. She finished the year with nine shutouts, tied for the second-most by a Kentucky goalkeeper all-time, and a 0.62 GAA, good for the third best single-season GAA in program history. A team captain, Josephson is a native of Apex, N.C., and is pursuing her master’s degree in counseling.
Maya Lacognato: A graduate-transfer from IUPUI, Lacognato started all 19 games this season for Kentucky, tallying eight points on three goals and two assists. The Granger, Ind. native ranked third on the team in both goals and points and scored two of her three goals in conference play. At UK, Lacognato is enrolled in a graduate certificate program in Sport, Fitness & Recreation Management.
Payton Robertson: Robertson spent the 2023 season at Kentucky after transferring to the Bluegrass from Buffalo. The midfielder appeared in all 19 matches and made three starts, scoring a goal in the Wildcats’ 3-0 win at Iowa State. Hailing from Toronto, the fifth year is studying Community and Leadership Development at Kentucky.
Anna Young: A senior from Gaithersburg, Md., Young led all Kentucky field players this season with 1,659 minutes played. A team captain, Young picked up her first collegiate point this season, registering an assist in a 1-1 draw at Tennessee back on Oct. 5. The midfielder is majoring in Exercise Science at UK.
