Men's Basketball Set for Blue-White Game on Saturday
After enjoying tremendous success in Pikeville a season ago, the Kentucky men’s basketball team will hit the road and visit another part of the Commonwealth for its annual Blue-White Game again this season. The Wildcats will travel to Northern Kentucky’s Truist Arena on Saturday for the 2023 edition of the game presented by Kroger.
All ticket revenue will benefit the Team Eastern Kentucky Flood Relief Fund and the Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund.
The game will tip at 6 p.m. ET and air digitally on SEC Network+.
Winner of the 2023 GLOBL JAM, Kentucky boasts the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class with seven first-year signees including five top-25 prospects in Aaron Bradshaw, Rob Dillingham, Justin Edwards, Reed Sheppard and D.J. Wagner. Jordan Burks, who led OTE in points per game, and Joey Hart, who captured a state high school crown, were spring additions, while Zvonimir Ivišić, a native of Croatia, was added in August.
Additionally, Kentucky signed one of the top graduate transfers in Tre Mitchell, who has played in 102 career games, making 92 starts, and has scored more than 1,390 career points.
The Cats will also return Antonio Reeves, who averaged 14.4 points per game a season ago and was named the SEC’s Sixth Man of the Year. Sophomores Ugonna Onyenso and Adou Thiero also return. Onyenso had a per-40-minute average of 5.7 blocks per game, while Thiero played nearly 10 minutes a game and was a spark off the bench.
Last season in Pikeville, Reeves scored 27 points and Thiero had 21 for the White team, which lost 70-67 to the Blue team.
Terrence Jones (2011-12) owns the Blue-White Game scoring record with 52 points in the 2011 edition.
The Cats will play exhibition contests against Georgetown College on Oct. 27 and Kentucky State on Nov. 2 at Rupp Arena with both games tipping off at 7 p.m. Kentucky’s season-opener is on Nov. 6 against New Mexico State with an 8 p.m. tip.
