Six UKTF Women Advance To Saturday’s Quarterfinals on Day Two of NCAA East Prelims
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Six Kentucky track and field student athletes from the women’s team are advancing on the track to Saturday’s quarterfinals. Masai Russell headlined the evening for the Wildcats earning automatic qualifiers in both the 100-meter hurdles and the 400-meter hurdles.
Russell took first place in both her heat and the overall first round in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 12.40 (4.9). Yasmin Brooks placed within the top three of her heat with a time of 13.15 (2.6) to earn the other automatic qualifier from the event for the Wildcats.
Freshman Anthaya Charlton won her heat in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.10 (2.1) to earn the automatic qualifier.
Both DeAnna Martin and Sydney Steely advanced to the quarterfinals of the 800 meters. Martin placed 10th overall with a season best time of 2:05.49 while Steely was 17th with a time of 2:06.37.
Russell won her heat in commanding fashion in the 400-meter hurdles to earn her final automatic qualifier of the day. Her time of 57.57 was good for ninth overall.
Lastly, Karimah Davis placed within the top three of her heat in the 200 meters to earn the final automatic qualifier of the day. She placed sixth overall with a time of 22.67 (2.4).
The NCAA Division I East Preliminary Championships continue tomorrow for UKTF at 1 p.m. with the men’s discus throw.
