UKTF Earns First Points Of SEC Outdoor Championships

BATON ROUGE, La. – Kentucky track & field completed day one of the Southeastern Conference Outdoor Championships at Louisiana State University at the Bernie Moore Track Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The day featured the first points earned by the Wildcats as well as five qualifiers from today’s track events.

Today’s Finals

Logan Coles earned the first and only points of the day for the Wildcats in the men’s hammer throw. The sophomore placed seventh with a personal best throw of 214’03”/ 65.31 meters for two points and improved to number four overall on the UK all-time performers list.

Both Michael Browning and Dennis Ohene-Adu had season bests in the same event but couldn’t get out of the prelims. Browning placed 12th overall with a throw of 193’03”/58.92 meters while Ohene-Adu placed 16th with a throw of 181’04”/55.29 meters.

Track Prelims

The Wildcats earned five qualifiers in total from this afternoon’s track events.

Both Sydney Steely and Jenna Schwinghamer advanced in the women’s 800 meters. Steely placed sixth with a season best time of 2:05.00q while Schwinghamer was just behind in seventh with a time of 2:05.05.

Kennedy Lightner won his heat in the men’s 200 meters to earn an automatic qualification to the final on Saturday. He placed fourth overall with a time of 20.32 (2.4).

Karimah Davis also earned an automatic qualifier in the women’s 200 meters. She placed a time of 22.92 (0.4) to place fifth overall.

Lastly, Masai Russell was the overall runner up in the women’s 400-meter hurdles winning her heat with a time of 56.32 to earn the final automatic qualifier of the day for the Wildcats.

At the end of day one the men’s team sits in 11th place with two points while the women remain scoreless.

The SEC outdoor championships will continue tomorrow afternoon at 5 p.m. ET/4 p.m. CT from Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
